Opening a Branch of the Iranology Foundation in Hamadan Province

A new branch of the Iranology Foundation officially started its activities on 29 August 2017. Bahramzadeh, Research Deputy of the Iranology Foundation; Shariatmadari, Director of the General Head Office and Head of the Provincial Affairs of the Iranology Foundation; Nikbakht, Governor of Hamadan Province; Elahitabar, Political-Security Deputy of the Provincial Department of Hamadan; Malmir, President of the Cultural Heritage Office of Hamadan, and a number of cultural authorities and figures of Hamadan province were present in the opening ceremony of this branch.

Mohsen Janjan, Director of the Iranology Foundation Branch in Hamadan Province, while referring to the abundance of historical and cultural monuments and works in this province and the rise of such distinguished figures as Ayn-al-Qużāt Hamadānī, Baba Tahir, and Ibn Sina in this region, maintained that the establishment of a branch of the Iranology Foundation was a necessity in Hamadan, which was accomplished with the generous support of the esteemed President of the Iranology Foundation, Professor Ayatullah Seyyed Muhammed Khamenei. He announced that the first priority of the branch was to compile a comprehensive encyclopedia of Hamadan province.

During the rest of the program, Shariatmadari, the Head of the Provincial Affairs of the Foundation, maintained that, since the beginning of the activities of the Iranology Foundation under the management of Professor Ayatullah Seyyed Muhammed Khamenei, in spite of several financial constraints, some new branches of this Foundation have been opened in Kermanshah, Kerman, Semnan, and Kurdistan. He also stated that a branch of the Iranology Foundation will be opened in Gilan Province in the near future.

It is worth mentioning that the Historical House of Bijan (related to the second Pahlavi Era), which is used as the Provincial Branch of the Foundation in Hamadan, was inscribed as number 5022 on the on the List of Iran’s National Heritage on 16. 3. 2002.

Unveiling Ceremony of the Arabic Website of the Iranology Foundation

The unveiling ceremony of the Arabic Website of the Iranology Foundation was held in the Head Office of the Foundation. Professor Ayatullah Muhammed Khamenei, President of the Iranology Foundation; Ayatullah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri, Advisor to the Supreme Leader in Islamic World Affairs, Mohammad Hassan Tabarra’iyan, Advisor to the General Secretary of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought; Mirzaei, Head of the Iranian Association of Arabic Literature; Na’imi, Editor-in-Chief of Taghrib News Agency; Najaf, translator of the Arabic Website of the Iranology Foundation, and a number of the deputies and colleagues at the Iranology Foundation attended this event. At the beginning of the program, Rahimianghiz, Head of the Computer, Technology, and Information Office of the Iranology Foundation, provided some explanations regarding this website. He maintained that some of the significant achievements of launching the Arabic Website of the Foundation include its being recognized as one of important Arabic websites of the world and producing attractive and useful content regarding Iranian culture and history and the news of the Persian Gulf in Arabic.

Next, Alizadeh, Information and International Affairs Deputy of the Iranology Foundation, stated, “From now on, according to the direct order of the esteemed President of the Iranology Foundation and in the light of his generous support, Arabic will be used as the third language of the official website of the Foundation.” He also added that, after launching the English and Arabic websites of the Iranology Foundation, the Russian, French, and Spanish versions will be launched in the near future.

Later Professor Ayatullah Khamenei expressed his satisfaction regarding the launching of the Arabic website as one of the most important achievements of the Foundation in 2017 and added, “Our efforts at the Iranology Foundation are aimed to facilitate the task of introducing Iranian culture and history to the people of the world in different languages. We hope that the Arabic Website of the Iranology Foundation can pave the way for Arabic speaking people all over the world to grasp a better knowledge of our culture. This is because the history and culture of Arab nations is intertwined with Iranian culture.” Through pinpointing that the domain of cultural Iran is not limited to the present geographical borders of the country, Professor Ayatullah Khamenei emphasized the necessity of the publication of the achievements of Iranian experts, scientists, and scholars in different languages of the world.

Holding the Sixth Knowledge Enhancement Course on Iranology

The Sixth Knowledge Enhancement Course on Iranology was held with the cooperation of the Islamic Culture and Communication Organization in the Iranology Foundation in 11-21 September 2017. The participants included 11 university students of Persian Language and Literature from Russia and Turkey. The purpose of holding Iranology knowledge enhancement courses is to provide foreign students of Iranology and Persian Language and Literature majors with a more profound knowledge of Iranian culture and lifestyle. The taught lessons included history of Persian language and Iranian languages, history of Iranian culture and civilization, mythology, pre-Islamic history of Iran, history of Islamic Iran, Iranian art and architecture, and history of Iranian literature.

Publication of the first Persian-Greek and Greek-Persian Dictionary in Athens

This dictionary has been co-authored by Evangelos Ventis and M’asumeh Alinia. According to Alinia, this book is the product of five years of continuous effort and extensive study and is the first Greek-Persian and Persian-Greek dictionary published in the world. The publication of this work is an important step in expanding the cultural relationships between Iranian and Greek nations. This dictionary has been published in 360 pages in the medium octavo format by Puriya Publications in Athens.

Holding the first Intensive Iranology Course at Sofia University

The first intensive Iranology course was held at Sofia University in 11-19 September 2017. According to Ali Asghar Mohammadkhani, Cultural and International Deputy of Book City, this course was offered by the International Scientific-Research Centre for Iran, the Balkans and Central Europe (IBCE) Association with the cooperation of Sofia University, the Cultural and International Center of Book City, Center for S’adi Studies, and Allameh Tabataba’i University. This course will be continuously offered on an annual basis in member countries. The purpose of holding the course is providing the Iranologists of the region with a deeper familiarity with each other, the research and scientific achievements of each university, and the contemporary literary changes in Iran. A number of professors and university students from different universities, such as Jagiellonian University in Kraków in Poland, University of Warsaw, Kosovo University in Albania, Center for Shi’a Studies in Slovakia, and Iranology Center in Ankara participated in this course.
