Meeting of Professor Andrey Smirnov with Professor Ayatullah Seyyed Mohammed Khamenei

Professor Andrey Smirnov, President of the Institute of Philosophy, affiliated with Russian Academy of Sciences, led a delegation meeting with Professor Ayatullah Mohammed Khamenei, President of the Iranology Foundation in June 2016. In this meeting, Dr. Rosana Pskov, Philosophy Professor at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia; Dr. Tatiana Korneeva, researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Ilshat Nasyrov, Philosophy Professor of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences were also present. They discussed some philosophical issues with Reza Soleimanheshmat, Associate Professor at ‘Allamah Tabataba’i University; Hossein Kalbasi Ashtari, Professor at the Philosophy Department of ‘Allamah Tabataba’i University and Editor-in-Chief of the History of Philosophy Journal, and Ghodratollah Alizadeh, Information and International Affairs Deputy of the Iranology Foundation, who were also present in this meeting.

By reference to the 10-year experience of the Sadra Islamic Philosophy Research Institute in the field of research on the comprehensive history of philosophy in Iran and in the world, and given Professor Smirnov’s interest in topics in the realm of Islamic philosophy and his position as the President of the Philosophy Institute of Russia, Professor Ayatullah Khamenei proposed the beginning of cooperation with the professors of this Institute and those of other universities in Russia.

Professor Andrey Smirnov referred to the amazingly significant accuracy with which philosophical topics are dealt with in Iran and introduced Islamic philosophy as a medicine which can heal the problems of modern world. At the end of this meeting, the Russian delegates visited the various exhibitions of the Iranology Foundation.

Publication of the 5th Issue of the Specialized Quarterly of Persian Gulf Studies

The 5th issue of the specialized Quarterly of Persian Gulf Studies has been recently published and is now available to interested readers. The license-holder of this Journal is the Iranology Foundation, and it is published with the purpose of familiarizing the lovers of Iran with the Persian Gulf region and its ever-increasing importance.

In this issue, following a cultural, historical, and social approach, it has been tried to pay particular attention to eco-tourism and common regional ties in the published articles, notes, research reports, documents, and news. It is hoped that, in this way, an appropriate context is provided for cultural dialogs in the field of Persian Gulf studies.

Library of the Iranology Foundation as One of the Richest Specialized Libraries in the Country

The main mission of the Library and Documents Center of the Iranology Foundation as a specialized library in the field of Iranian studies is to provide the required collections and sources of information.

This library continually probes the sources of studies in the field of Iranology all through the year and, through creating lists and inventories for the existing data on the related websites, identifies the sources and references and tries to obtain them. In the 29th International Book Fair in Tehran, this Center managed to buy about 1000 books in the fields related to Iranological discussions. Presently, the Library and Documents Center of the Foundation, with 110725 books, 41342 journal issues, and a great number of oral and aural sources, is considered to be one of the richest specialized libraries of the country.

Unveiling the Book of History of Contemporary Persian Literature

At the same time with holding the International Book Fair of Tbilisi, the book of History of Contemporary Persian Literature by Mzia Burjanadzeh, one of the prominent Iranologists and professors of Persian literature and language of Tbilisi State University, was unveiled in the main hall of the Fair.

When speaking about the characteristics of contemporary Iranian literature, Dr. Burjanadzeh stated that a profound horizon and true and gnostic view of the world are among the unique features of Iranian poets.

In this event, Iranian Cultural Council, maintained that some good Georgian translations of Iranian classical literature are presently available to interested people. However, the translators and writers of both countries have, seemingly, not paid much attention to contemporary literature; therefore, the writing of this book by Dr. Burjanadzeh is of great importance.

Iranian literature enjoys great beauty and profound concepts, and that is why translations of Persian literary masterpieces could be of great value to the lovers of the cultures of other nations.

Publication of Bibliography of Iran in Turkey in 2009

Bibliography of Iran in Turkey in 2009 was published by the Cultural Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ankara. This book is intended to introduce the great number of books which have been published in Turkey about Iran; Iranian literature, history, scholars, and culture, and the common cultural values of the two countries.

Bibliography of Iran in Turkey in 2009 is a valuable source introducing the views of Turkish writers regarding the various aspects of Iranian society. It also casts a glance at various cultural, religious, scientific, political, social, and artistic features of the glorious land of Iran. Finally, it refers to some shared cultural values of Iran and Turkey.

Publication of Shahnameh in Turkish

Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh was published in Turkish with the cooperation of the Cultural Council of Iran in Erzurum. This book has been translated into Turkish by Nemat Yildirim, Professor of Persian Language and Literature at Erzurum University. It has been published in two volumes in 2350 pages with a circulation of 1000 copies by Kabalchi Publications. Some beautiful miniatures from Shahnameh have also been provided at the end of the book. In order to translate this epical book, Professor Yildirim used 53, 390 couplets of Shahnameh in 13 copies of this book, It took him seven years to finish the translation of this book. Previously, Professor Manjati Lougal had translated about 20,000 couplets of Shahnameh into Turkish; therefore, Professor Yildirim translated the rest of the couplets of this book and published them along with Professor Lougal’s 20,000 couplets.

Shahnameh is the greatest Persian book which has been appreciated all over the world and has been translated into several languages.
