Data Banks

Data banks are among the instructional and research tools in the Iranology Foundation. They are made available as data sources to researchers and university students inside and outside the Foundation. The users of these banks include both Iranian and non-Iranian researchers. The developed banks which are now operational are as follows:

1. Data Bank of Iranian Scholars and Renowned Figures

One of the purposes of the Iranology Foundation is to conduct meticulous investigations of the biographies and works of Iranian scientists, artists, and thinkers. Accordingly, the Data Bank of Iranian Scholars and Renowned Figures has been designed to provide a valuable collection of work samples and biographies of Iranian literary men, scientists, distinguished religious and national figures, artists, and prominent characters.

2. Data Bank of Iranologists (Iranian and non-Iranians)

Given the existence of numerous Persian sources introducing foreign Iranologists, Orientalists, and Islamologists, the Data Bank of Foreign Iranologists was developed in Persian in order to organize the available data. The present sources can be classified into different categories in terms of the data they present and include a vast range of references, from encyclopedic sources written in their own specific style to interviews with distinguished people or papers commemorating researchers or other renowned scholars and figures working in the field of Iranology. Each of these references presents different types of information about their biography and specialized and research activities. In designing the Bank, it has been tried to present only the most important data regarding each Iranologist and avoid the inclusion of each and every detail about them in order to make it more operational and useful.

3. Data Bank of National Iranology Centers and Institutes

The establishment of useful scientific relationships in order to exchange data and to learn about the problems related to Iranology both in Iran and at the international level requires knowing about different educational and research centers in the country. The Data Bank of Iranology Centers and Institutes in Iran has been launched in the Iranology Foundation in order to achieve the above purpose.

4. Data Bank of Non-Iranian Iranology Centers and Institutes

One of the other data banks developed by the Information Unit of the Iranology Foundation is the Data Bank of Non-Iranian Iranology Centers and Institutes. The data recorded in this Bank include the establishment year, address, contact information, and activity fields of the institutes and organizations that work in the realm of Iranology. This Bank has been designed in order to facilitate communication with intended scientific centers and exchange news and data with them.

5. Data Bank of Iranology Society

In order to collect and record the personal and contact information of the foreign guests and visitors of the Iranology Foundation, the related registration form has been developed in both Persian and English. The collected data is recorded in the Data Bank of Iranologists given the visitors’ academic degrees and jobs. Moreover, some registration forms are also sent to all the Iranology and Orientology centers and organizations of the world through email. After receiving the required data, they are recorded in the Data Bank of Iranologists or Iranology Society.

6. National Data Bank of Iran

The data existing in the National Data Bank of Iran are classified under six main topics, including geography, education and research, literature, politics, art, and social affairs. Each topic, in turn, is divided into some branches which are presently being updated.

7. Data Bank of Conferences

The data of this Bank are updated on a weekly basis and the data regarding the conferences which are held in the field of Iranology by the Iranology Foundation and other academic centers are recorded there. The purpose of launching the Data Bank of Conferences is to cooperate with the scientific organizations and centers all over the country regarding the optimal holding of conferences and meetings on the theme of Iranology.
